Whether it’s swift aid during floods, support for Ukrainian defenders, financial assistance for employees’ families in difficult situations, or scholarships for future technical talents, Michal Strnad and the Czechoslovak Group demonstrate that philanthropy is more than just a word. Over the past year, more than one hundred million CZK has been allocated to charitable causes, and with the newly established CSG Foundation, this support will expand even further.
Michal Strnad, owner of the global industrial and technology group Czechoslovak Group, is a regular contributor to various charitable causes. He supports them both personally and through the companies he controls, directing aid to organizations, communities and individuals alike. He has also been consistently focused on supporting the extracurricular activities of the group’s employees.
One notable example is the swift response to the floods that severely affected the Moravian-Silesian region in September last year. The Fire Rescue Service received a donation of eleven Tatra trucks, which were immediately deployed to assist with flood damage recovery. Additionally, CSG member company Excalibur Army, in agreement with the Integrated Rescue System, provided two engineering bridge structures. These were used to build a temporary bridge for emergency services in the village of Česká Ves in the Jeseník region. The bridge was constructed by a team of Excalibur Army employees in collaboration with emergency service units.
The Czechoslovak Group has also been a steadfast supporter of Ukraine’s defense, supplying artillery ammunition and military equipment. Beyond these efforts, a special donation was made last year in collaboration with Minister of Defense Jana Černochová to the Ukrainian towns of Staryi Martyniv and Zboriv. This included charging stations, diesel generators, power plants and reconnaissance drones intended to support Ukrainian military units, including soldiers from these towns.
As part of its long-term commitment, CSG regularly contributes to the Military Solidarity Fund. In 2024, on the occasion of Veterans Day, the organization received a donation of CZK 200,000. Additionally, CSG and Tatra contributed a total of CZK 200,000 to support the recovery of an expeditionary Tatra truck that had an accident in Tajikistan and needed assistance returning to the Czech Republic.
Another important initiative is the support for employees’ extracurricular activities. Since 2017, employees engaged in sports, cultural, charitable, or other community activities have been able to apply for financial assistance under the Employee Project Support Program. Last year, the total funding for this initiative doubled to CZK 1 million and the program was expanded beyond the Czech Republic and Slovakia to other European countries where CSG operates.
Beyond company-led initiatives, Michal Strnad also provides personal support. For example, this year he donated CZK 300,000 to an underage daughter of a Tatra Trucks employee who was diagnosed with a rare genetic disease. He also contributed CZK 400,000 to support a grandson of a CSG employee who passed away after a long illness.
In total, all these charitable activities amount to over 100 million CZK. Many of these efforts will now be consolidated under the newly established CSG Foundation, which will also introduce a new educational pillar focused primarily on scholarship programs for talented students in technical fields.
